Abstract

Diagnostics and monitoring of power equipment are of much relevance and great demand owing to their being the most advanced techniques for achieving more efficient operation of this equipment. Under the currently existing conditions in the energy sector, in which the average equipment age is catastrophically approaching its maximum permissible level, assessment of the power equipment fleet state is becoming a vital need. One of the approaches to assessing the state of this kind of equipment implies calculating the health index (HI) or the technical condition index (TCI) values. This approach exploits the paradigm based on the axiom stating that oil contains 70 to 75% of information about the state of the equipment monitored. However, such practice has a number of significant limitations, which are primarily stemming from the lack of a sufficient amount of source data that are the main carriers of information. Another reason is the difficulty of determining the values of weight coefficients, a task which requires direct participation of experts. No less significant are difficulties associated with taking into account the operating conditions and the equipment operation features. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) methods and algorithms that improve significantly the accuracy and reliability of computed HI values leads to a conclusion that there is a need to make a "fundamental shift" in the exploited paradigm. The article makes an attempt to present the results of this kind of research (assessing the state of complex power equipment) given a "fundamental shift" in the paradigm by using the possibilities of modern dielectric spectroscopy techniques for this purpose. Based on the method of constructing dielectric absorption current spectra, it became possible to overcome the above-mentioned difficulties, including the use of expert experience.
