An experimental setup has been built, and the possibility to obtain cryogenic monodisperse targets from liquid nitrogen and argon jets has been confirmed in the course of experiments. It has been found that a stable monodisperse stream of targets can be obtained until the jet freezes completely. One of the aims of the study was to determine how the jet temperature variations affect the droplet flow stability. To this end, the changes with time of the liquid nitrogen and argon jets surface and interior temperatures as functions of the jet diameter, velocity, initial temperature, and external pressure were numerically studied in the PHOENICS software environment. It has been found from the numerical study results that, when thin liquid nitrogen or argon jets are injected into a low-pressure region, the jets do not have enough time to freeze at once and can be broken down into monodisperse targets. The use of such targets in laser-plasma sources of soft X-ray radiation will make it possible to study live cell cultures and various nanobiological objects in a liquid medium or in air with a limit resolution of several micrometers.
