Prospects for the Development of Industrial Bioenergy in Russia

In March 2020, it was 60 years since the time the fundamental investigations of the most complex natural methanogenic bacteria- biochemical biocenosis were commenced with the aim of setting up large-scale industrial production of vitamin B12 for the agricultural complex of the Soviet Union and Socialist Community countries. This process includes extremely complex anaerobic bacterial systems that interconnect archaebacteria (methanogens), eubacteria (fermenters), and enzyme-bio-chemical complexes with their physical and chemical (temperature, pH of medium, redox potential) parameters.
The investigations carried out in the period from 1960 to 1965 made it possible to set up highly remunerative industrial production of the most complex non-protein preparation (vitamin B12) and opened the way to the development of modern biotechnologies for producing biogas from various organic compounds of photobiological nature (except lignin) and establishing the domestic bioenergy industry, which was several years ahead of the foreign developments in the field of bioenergy.
The domestic biogas technologies developed in the period from 1960s to 1980s were 40 — 50 years ahead of time.
